Experience
Darell started work in residential home design in 1998. In 2004, Darell joined RL Goodson, and gained experience in commercial construction drafting using AutoCAD. Darell joined TSA in 2010. Beginning in 2012, he began doing more and more work in BIM modeling instead of AutoCAD. Some of his favorite projects include Atelier, Las Olas, KU Med.

  • 14-story office tower, 9-story hotel and 5-story food/fitness above a 4-level parking podium built over a demolished portion of the existing mall with renovations to the existing mall
  • Office building 350,000SF
  • Food/fitness building 135,000SF
  • Hotel 150-room 130,000SF with an additional 8,200SF ballroom and 4,200SF restaurant at the mall lobby level
  • Parking deck 490,000SF 900 car replacement garage
  • Existing renovations included the addition of two new escalators at an existing precast double tee parking deck, capacity upgrade of existing precast floor structure for higher occupancy loading, new atrium openings, addition of a new vestibule and new façade at the interface of the existing mall and the new office and food/fitness buildings.
  • Structural systems used were cast-in-place concrete, post tensioned beams, post tensioned one-way and two-way slabs, wide module pan joist, steel beams and steel joists with lateral systems being shear walls and concrete moment frames.
  • Structural systems for the existing mall renovations were structural steel and capacity upgrade/enhancements with fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) and drill and epoxy dowels.
  • Foundation systems for all buildings are cast-in-place concrete grade beams and auger cast piles with pile caps strategically located to not interfere with existing buildings abandoned piers.

  • Office building is a ten-level structure with 100,000SF office over multi-level 660,000SF parking structure and two-story retail space
  • (1) two-level plus mezzanine, 96,000SF cinema above retail / restaurant space
  • (6) 1 and 2-story retail / restaurant buildings
  • Covered amphitheater with lawn seating built above a below grade two story restaurant space

  • Sak’s Fifth Avenue store relocation involved the relocation of 32 columns in existing 5-story concrete building. Three relocated columns required support of 56’-long precast double-tees and a precast concrete girder.
  • New outparcel building for luxury tenants constructed over below-grade parking deck.
  • Former anchor store converted to in-line retail tenants, with removal of a column line to form a wider concourse with floor openings at three levels, and façade improvements which included creation of outdoor restaurant seating at two levels.
  • Mall common area renovation included enlargement of vestibule with new escalators over truck tunnel below, new pedestrian bridges at vertical circulation core, and removal of four columns supporting concrete floor structure in operating tenant spaces.

Warehouse Wind Damage and Repair Design

Wind Damage - TSA was hired to investigate the damaged warehouse caused by high wind speeds. The roof was blown off and multiple steel joists were damaged as a result.

An interior investigation was performed to determine the extent of the joist damage and provide repairs for the damaged joists.
