We are often contacted to see if a high-density filing system can go into a new lease space after the space plan is complete and construction of the interior finish-out has either started or is about to start. Unfortunately, that limits the options that are available to save money by not having to reinforce the structure.
In this case, we were asked to review a proposed high-density filing system under a tight schedule. We found that the proposed location wasn’t going to work, so we suggested a new location that could support the loads with less reinforcing and would still fit in with their space plan.
We performed a preliminary design for the reinforcing. After they got the price back from their contractor to do the work, the client decided regular filing cabinets weren’t that bad after all.
