In early 2010, a severe snowstorm occurred in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that exceeded the design snow load in some portions of the region. The snow caused a range of distress in buildings from ceiling distress in some long-span structures to collapse for other structures. We were retained to investigate damage to numerous buildings from this storm.
At this location, we performed field verification of existing dimensions and measured member sizes to compare them to the building plans. It was determined that the structure was not built in accordance with the plan and that the original structure was under-designed. As the roof collapsed, it caused the building's columns to become displaced and damage the concrete panel walls. We prepared repair designs for the damaged areas to restore the building.
