As an Owner was preparing to install a new roofing system, they became concerned about the roof deck because they were unsure if the workers could safely stand on the roof to install the new roof. TSA was retained to assess the steel roof deck, and determine if it was safe to perform roofing. After grinding down the surface of the coating and rust, deck thickness measurements were recorded at various locations using an ultrasonic thickness gauge. TSA determined that portions of the roof were still acceptable, while others had experienced sufficient deterioration to require replacement of the metal roof deck as part of the roofing work.
