Hail damage is a very large issue in the United States. NOAA reports that severe thunderstorms caused $21 billion of damage in the spring of 2011, which hail being a major source of the damage. Hail doesn't normally cause immediate failure of building materials, but it weakens the building materials, such as roofing, so that premature failure will occur. TSA has extensive experience investigating the extent and severity of hail damage.
