Folding Partitions

Details

Folding partitions, like high-density filing systems, represent a unique challenge in structural design. Folding partitions are relatively light when they are extended. However, they have dynamic loads that require lateral stabilization and they become heavy as the partitions accordion into the pocket. Folding partitions can also experience deflection issues because they typically have much more stringent deflection limits than normal structural elements. In some cases, it has been necessary to design independent structural framing to support the folding partition instead of hanging it from the existing structure. TSA personnel have designed supports for folding partitions and understand the issues associated with their design, construction, and use.
